Scion, a division of Toyota Motor Sales U.S.A. and one of the youngest automotive companies in the industry, recently celebrated its 5-year anniversary. In celebration of their 5-year anniversary, Scion approached Racing Code to design T-shirts and graphics to commemorate its history in the making. Racing Code implemented the task by designing men and women’s tees, and graffiti style graphics plastered over windows at the Toyota National Headquarters in Torrance, California.

Branding for 5-Year Anniversary as appeared on T-shirts and posters

Background information - During Scion’s five years in the automotive market, the company has evolved successfully from its unveiling of the first 2004 Scion models - the hip, sporty and edgy xA and xB, at the Greater Los Angeles Auto Show in January 2003.

Arriving in time for Father’s Day, Racing Code is releasing a die-cast “Vintage Racer Clock” with Japanese movement. Available in chrome or antique finish, this time-piece is a must-have item for automotive enthusiasts on your list or for yourself. Approximate dimensions are 3.875 inches x 1.5 inches. Although this time-piece is compact and small, we don’t recommend strapping it onto your wrist! Check out the Racing Code store later this week for its availability - supplies are limited.

April 12 kicked off the 2008 Formula Drift season on the streets of Long Beach under 90-plus degree heat. Spearheaded by Steve Hatanaka of Scion, the debut of the RS*R tC at Formula D added another chapter to Scion’s racing history. Yes, the rumors are finally confirmed - Ken Gushi “The Goosh,” the youngest driver to compete in D1 at age 16, is now the official driver for Scion!

Those of you who made it out to there saw the Scion crew wearing Drift t-shirts designed by Racing Code. These tees featured Scion’s RS*R tC sports coupe, which was converted into a RWD 400+ hp asphalt-burning drifting machine. These tees were included as part of exclusive giveaways to media and attendees. Check out the next Formula D headed your way, and grab one of our Drift tees! Good luck Ken!

Here is a behind-the-scenes look at one of our latest t-shirt designs, the “Specs” tee. The inspiration for the shirt came from a film I saw in 2007 called “Helvetica“. For those of you who aren’t design junkies like us, you will know Helvetica from your font list in Word. A brief history, Helvetica was designed in 1957 to go with this new wave of modern design style emerging from Switzerland, which was characterized by grid-based layouts and use of negative (or white) space. We began brainstorming words and terminology that gear heads like us love to read about and arranged them on the shirt in a very Swiss design manner. To give it something extra, we printed the grey letters with a light-reflective metallic ink. See, we’ve got your safety in mind when designing this shirt.

Just completed this custom tee design for Scion’s HakoCoupe concept unveiling at the New York Autoshow in March. We dig the fresh interpretation of the original xB with fender flares and a upright windshield. This was a limited run tee produced for Scion to hand out to media. We have more OEM tees in the works. Will keep you posted.
On a related note, for some reason people got this itch to redesign this concept once they saw it. Click on photo below to vote for your favorite reinterpretation of the HakoCoupe on Jalopnik. Our favorite is the HakoCoupe Mail Truck.

Here’s a tip to save you from calling AAA the next time you lock yourself out of your car. (Please be advised: This only works for keyless remote entry vehicles). Items needed: 2 mobile phones and 1 keyless remote entry
Call the mobile phone of whoever may have your spare keyless remote entry. Instruct your friend to hold the keyless remote entry to your vehicle no more than 1 foot away from his/her mobile phone. On your end, stand in close proximity to your vehicle. You do not need to have your face smeared across the windshield. Patiently wait for your friend to press the unlock button on the remote to disarm your vehicle. Your vehicle should unlock immediately on the driver’s side. Magic!
